Serbia has entered one of the most dynamic political and economic periods in recent years. Speaking during a conference of EU candidate countries, President Aleksandar Vučić stated that Serbia remains committed to its European path but warned that citizens should not expect rapid EU enlargement in the near future. According to Vučić, the accession process is becoming increasingly complex, and candidate countries must continue implementing reforms while recognizing that membership may still take time. 

Meanwhile, Serbia continues working toward opening additional negotiation chapters with the European Union. European institutions have acknowledged certain reform efforts but continue to emphasize the importance of progress in areas such as the rule of law, judicial independence, democratic institutions, and media freedom before further accession steps can be taken.

Organizers say more than 130 countries have confirmed their participation, while millions of visitors are expected during the 93-day event in 2027. 

The exhibition is expected to showcase innovation, technology, science, culture, sports, and music under the official theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All.”

Beyond the exhibition itself, EXPO is expected to leave a lasting legacy through new roads, transportation links, public facilities, and business opportunities that will continue benefiting Serbia long after the event concludes. 

Hotels, restaurants, transportation companies, and tourism businesses across the country are already preparing for the expected arrival of millions of international visitors.

Foreign Investment Remains Strong

Alongside preparations for EXPO, Serbia continues expanding economic cooperation with international partners.

Recent agreements with China involving major investment projects, along with continued interest from European and American companies, demonstrate Serbia’s strategy of maintaining economic partnerships with multiple global markets.

Large investments in automotive manufacturing, digital technologies, logistics, infrastructure, and industrial production continue creating new employment opportunities across different regions of the country.

Officials believe these projects will further strengthen Serbia’s position as one of Southeast Europe’s fastest-growing investment destinations.

Serbia now finds itself balancing several important objectives at the same time.
