Serbia is continuing one of the largest infrastructure development cycles in its modern history, with new highways, express roads, bridges, and railway projects being built across multiple regions of the country. Over the past few years, transportation infrastructure has become one of the key national investment priorities. Major road corridors are gradually changing the way people travel, connect cities, and support economic growth throughout Serbia. According to recent infrastructure announcements, dozens of major projects are currently under construction or in the final stages of development. One of the most important projects is the Morava Corridor, which is expected to significantly improve transportation between central Serbian cities. The corridor is also described as Serbia’s first fully digital highway, featuring advanced traffic monitoring and modern safety systems. Officials announced that large parts of the project should become operational soon, improving connections between major industrial and regional centers. At the same time, Serbia continues work on several other major infrastructure routes, including the future “Vožd Karađorđe” corridor. The planned expressway is expected to connect multiple towns across Šumadija and eastern Serbia, while also linking important national highways. According to available project information, the route will include tunnels, bridges, overpasses, and modern road infrastructure designed to improve traffic flow and regional connectivity. Infrastructure investments are also expanding in northern Serbia. Construction and modernization projects around the Belgrade–Zrenjanin–Novi Sad route are expected to improve transportation connections across Vojvodina and support industrial development in the region. Railway modernization remains another important part of Serbia’s transport strategy. High-speed rail projects connecting Belgrade, Novi Sad, Subotica, and eventually Budapest are expected to improve passenger travel and cargo transportation between Serbia and Central Europe. Recent infrastructure reports described these railway upgrades as one of the most significant transportation changes in the region in decades. Government officials and infrastructure analysts often describe 2026 as a major year for Serbia’s transportation development. New road openings, railway upgrades, and ongoing construction projects are expected to reshape transportation across the country and improve travel times between key cities. Improved infrastructure can also support tourism, foreign investment, logistics, and trade. Faster transportation routes help businesses move goods more efficiently while improving regional economic cooperation and accessibility for travelers. In recent years, Serbia has increasingly focused on modernizing transport infrastructure to strengthen its role as an important regional connection point between Central Europe and the Balkans. With numerous projects still under development, the country’s transportation network is expected to continue expanding in the years ahead.
